the commentary

Taylor and Travis were photographed in NYC on a date night. It’s not our first glimpse of them as a married couple (that was at a wedding shortly after their nuptials in July), but it is our first look at their street style together.

Taylor’s designer lineup had some usual suspects. But the look feels entirely fresh thanks primarily to the print and silhouette of that dress. The most exciting feature? A halter! That’s a neckline we don’t see Taylor wear often. This style, which feels like an elegant take on a handkerchief top, has seen a recent resurgence; a third iteration from its original 70s run and minimalist remix in the 90s. The dress is from Stella’s PF26 collection which she described as a return to her “principles” as a designer. She said to Vogue, “I’ve spent so much time having to focus so deeply on the business side over all these years, I really wanted to be creative.” Refreshing! And, might I streeetch my hand a tad, feels akin to Taylor’s current publicity run centering her songwriting craft which has always been the creative core of her career. I was even reminded of Travis’ quote to Vogue about Taylor’s style. He said, “She’s not afraid of unique patterns or bold colors, and she’s just timeless and classy in everything she steps out in.” Indeed! While the looks don’t feel on-the-nose matchy, they do have a complementary feel to my eye with the muted neutral palette and play on patterns. To be sure, this asymmetric stripe - a “unique pattern” that’s quite elongating - feels like a glam and retro-feeling choice for a date night. I particularly loved the trailing gold chain fastener at the back which you could just catch a glimpse of.

While I thought a small metallic clutch, one of her paillette bags, or even a Stella ‘Falabella’ would have worked well here, it’s always nice to see her rock a repeat. She previously carried this bag in September 2024. The shoes are new, but familiar! Aquazzura has been a consistent go-to shoe brand for her, but especially this year. This particular sandal mule is a well-loved one as she’s previously worn it in both a raffia and velvet fabrication.

Lastly, those jewels. All repeats! In addition to her wedding stack, we see the return of her opal Darlene De Sedle pieces - a suite from her jewelry box that carries sentimental meaning as they were originally owned by Elizabeth Taylor and are presumed to be a gift from Travis. Taylor has long favored opals but the gemstone has taken on a new meaning per “Opalite”! But the repeat I was most excited to see? Those earrings! She originally wore these beautiful citrine and diamond earrings when she was inducted into the Songwriting Hall of Fame. Red carpet jewels are often loaned, but I can imagine Taylor wanting to keep this stunning pair in her personal collection for the place of significance they hold in her career. Their appearance here indicates, to me, that they’ve been transitioned into her personal collection. They added a colorful pop to the look.
