In Taylor’s announcement offering behind-the-scenes insight into the creation of the “Opalite” music video, she calls out the 90s as a source of inspiration. In addition to coming back stronger than a 90s trend, there are a handful of pieces that reference the 80s including this denim vest which appears to be from a 1984 collection for Guess.
One of my favourite aspects of the video is how every scene felt familiar, funny, and classically Taylor. There was so much charm on the surface, but deeper meanings imbued throughout that have been fun to parse. This particular scene (and the dance competition afterwards!) felt like clouds parting. It seemed to demonstrate how, when you’re the truest and happiest version of yourself with someone you love, the world just opens up. Everything (including outfit coordination) feels easy. Light. Silly. And even Lewis Capaldi wants to be your friend!
