the commentary
Taylor is in New York City this week ahead of promotional commitments attached to paired projects of the Eras Tour. The first are the pair of episodes of her six-part docuseries The End of an Era and the second is the newly filmed Eras Tour movie titled The Final Show featuring footage of the Tortured Poets Department set added to the second half of its run. Both projects are set to air this Friday on Disney+. Ahead of that, Taylor will be taping an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
As far as going out ensembles, this all black outing reminded me very much of her first street style moment this year in January (swipe for that comparison). Given we are at launch week for two projects set to “close the book” on the Eras era, this throwback feels like an appropriate bookend for me (even if unintentional).
I also felt thrown back to her early Speak Now-1989 days when she’d often wear charming duffel coats with toggle details like this. By all counts, proof of a coat and boots being a forever chic winter option! In my opinion, tall boots like this work best when worn with a short hemline (or tucked under a maxi skirt). This boxy coat almost stands in as a mini dress don’t you think? To my eye, it makes for a balanced silhouette. Going monochrome feels easy and seamless - and something I would copy + paste myself.
A fun accessory worth noting? Her sheer tights. These have a slight “Bejeweled” element to them thanks to gold thread woven in. The detail not only feels subtly festive for this time of year but also neatly ties into the gold hardware on her LV coat and boots. This particular pair retailed last year, but a similar “dashed” style is available now.
