Out and About in New York City

the commentary
Taking advantage of the Chiefs’ bye week, Taylor and Travis were spotted out in NYC again. The outing follows an earlier birthday dinner celebration for Travis.
When I initially scrolled across video clips from street photographers capturing the couple’s exit I had a little laugh to myself. “Taylor, love the green!” one of them called out to her. My thoughts exactly!
This tonal look felt like a textural hard launch for fall fashion. The richer color tones (olive, brown, burgundy) feel very autumnal, no? Leaning closer, I thought the lace detail at the hem and cuff of her (say it with me) greeeeeeeeeeeen YSL shirt seemed to continue the fabric story from her previous outing and that lacy Simkhai dress. Here, the pairing with cords - rather than a tough oversized leather jacket as that outfit had, also incidentally by YSL! - softens the style story and even, I think, complements the ribbed detailing in her top.
Taylor has worn a variation of loafers like these for years, often to give an outfit a preppy or vintage touch - a signature of her street style. But the “modern” styling choice I noticed? Socks! Peeking out from under the hem of her cords by The Row, I spied some contrast grey socks. The ankle length feels reflective of todays trends. As a millennial used to no-show sock silhouettes — and who admittedly still feels unsure about being able to “pull off” a socked look — I’m taking notes to give this item yet another go this fall.
Looking to her other accessories, as someone who appreciates a “sandwich” moment, I wondered if her black Gucci bag might have felt more integrated into the look if her YSL loafers were also black. But ultimately, I think the burgundy was the right move for some needed warmth in the palette. Taylor finished things off, jewelry-wise, with some repeats from her collection. Including a Tiffany & Co necklace we previously saw her wear in the official Release Party of a Showgirl companion theatrical film. What a sparkly little reminder that this album somehow came out one whole year ago.
