the commentary
Dressing for late night is a fashion genre of its own. More elevated than street style, but less so than a red carpet. Think more cocktail than eveningwear. Logisitically, you’re catering to a motion camera and a seated setting. It’s why luxe fabrics or sparkles are often favored over patterns, which can read as dizzying on screen.
Taylor often turns to David Koma for these in-between moments like events or late night appearances. Based on the past, she’s developed a uniform of sorts. David Koma’s designs are sharp and often have a glittery moment that appeals directly to Taylor’s longstanding love of sparkles. I also love the thought behind this dress. She is the present! Much like how the entire Eras Tour felt like an over-the-top gift catered directly to fans, she’s wrapping up the Eras era (and herself) in a big red bow as she finally closes that chapter for good. I will always *always* love a bow! The red velvet not only looks lush on camera, but the architectural neckline feels whimsical and delightfully holiday-like (though perhaps a shade too low for interview close-ups?). I do think this outfit really gets captured in all its glory better standing over sitting.
Style-wise, beautiful vintage jewels and a sky high pair of coordinating Aquazzura heels were all she needed to round out the ‘fit. I particularly love those heels! As a longtime fan of the Aquazzura bow sandals (Would they have been over-the-top here for a bow on bow moment? Perhaps. But ’tis the damn season, after all!), they’re a lovely tonal finisher.
