I’ve noted in many of the posts covering this music video for TSS just how austere, desaturated, and neutral-filled the majority of the costuming choices have been. Black, white, grey all dominate a cold landscape, chosen to reflect a “relationship that’s faded and atrophied.”
Near the video’s final outro, her clothing choices give way to a rare burst of colour in this silk maxi dress by Heirlome. We see Taylor wearing it as she storms away from an argument, gesturing angrily toward Colin Farrell’s character as if to tell him not to follow. The lyric playing over the moment: “Felt the reeling, done the healing, said the curses and prayers.”
Permit me to reach for a reasoning? The flowing silk of the dress feels like a natural extension of the looser, silken pieces that defined Taylor’s noticeable shift in street style this past spring. As for the choice of orange, of all shades, for this scene? Well, I thought that felt particularly fitting as it’s a colour I would associate with the present-tense healed world of The Life of a Showgirl that she now occupies.
