“Patient Zero” Music Video

the commentary
Perhaps, in my opinion, one of the most visually arresting frames in the music video. With many layers! Here, Taylor and Dakota stare up at a large marble statue wearing thin, lacy gowns. The image alone underscores the video’s selected location as “a metaphor for the coldness of a relationship that’s faded and atrophied.” Immediately, you get the sense of a detached stone coldness and perhaps even a power imbalance.
While I’m no Greek mythology expert, other fans have determined this precise statue to be “Marcellus as Hermes Logios.” Hermes, the herald of the gods, was largely responsible for carrying messages around the world. Indeed, the dresses themselves, with their asymmetric hem, almost seem to evoke a Grecian toga. The name ‘Rosetta’, I imagine, nods to the Rosetta Stone - an inscribed rock that made it possible to translate ancient languages that may have otherwise been lost to time. It’s a fitting namesake for a video — and an artist — in the business of turning otherwise fleeting feelings into something legible and lasting like a song.
