The next video of the Showgirl era is upon us! A complete 180 from the glamorous staging of “The Fate of Ophelia” while still, in a way, keeping to a storyline that time travels.
It was a delight to hear about some of the behind-the-scenes magic on the video from Taylor herself who was inspired to write the music video treatment during Showgirl promotion, inviting her fellow interviewees from her The Graham Norton Show spot to make guest appearances in the video.
The 90s fashion was a consistent theme throughout the video - a kitschy, campy take on old infomercials. It wouldn’t be Taylor without a nod to vintage - or cats! This sweatshirt happens to combine both. The entire video was utterly charming. Directed by Taylor, I feel both her efforts for the Showgirl Era have demonstrated her growth behind the camera. Both so different, yet very her.
The video also marks a first for Taylor, releasing it exclusively via streaming apps Apple Music and Spotify for its first 48 hours. The change comes from YouTube views no longer counting towards Billboard chart data. The video will be on YouTube beginning Sunday.
